We often use the technique of, "comma, but" when we want to say something hard to people. That technique softens comes after the comma so our words aren't so harsh. What we find is that Christ used a similar grammatical technique as we see with his words, "See here!" in the parable of the barren fig tree. And when we look at this parable we see that not only is Christ saying something hard to us (that we have to make decisions about barren trees) but that he wants us to be willing to have the difficult conversations in the first place. In this homily, Ben explores all these questions.
